Child Safety Compliance
Child Safety Compliance
Why Child Safety Matters
UK law requires all professionally supplied and installed blinds to meet strict child‑safety standards. These rules exist to prevent accidents involving cords and chains, especially in homes where children may be present.
Legal Requirements We Must Follow
As a professional blinds company, we are legally required to ensure that every blind we install complies with:
  • BS EN 13120:2009+A1:2014 (the UK child‑safety standard for internal blinds)
  • General Product Safety Regulations 2005
This means:
  • All blinds with cords or chains must include the correct safety devices.
  • Safety devices must be installed at the correct height (minimum 1.5m from the floor).
  • Cord and chain lengths must be restricted where required.
  • All warnings and instructions must be left with the customer.
What This Means for Your Installation
To comply with the law and keep your home safe:
  • We must fit the appropriate child‑safety device(s) with your blind.
  • These devices cannot be removed, omitted, or installed lower than the legal height.
  • If a blind cannot be installed safely, we are not permitted to fit it.
Types of Safety Devices
Depending on the blind type, we may install:
  • Breakaway connectors (designed to separate under pressure)
  • Chain tensioners (to keep chains tight and out of reach)
  • Cord cleats (to wrap cords safely, installed at 1.5m+)
These devices are discreet, effective, and required on all corded blinds.

Your Responsibility After Installation
Once installed, customers must:
  • Keep safety devices in place and in use.
  • Avoid placing furniture near windows where children could climb.
  • Ensure cords and chains remain secured and out of reach.
Our Commitment to Safety
We take child safety extremely seriously. Every blind we supply and install will be fitted in full compliance with UK law. This protects you, your family, visitors to your home, and ensures your blinds are safe, durable, and legally compliant. If you have any questions about child‑safety requirements or the devices we fit, we’re always happy to explain them during your appointment.
